After MWC, all eyes are on Samsung’s Galaxy S8 event
Now that LG, Sony, Huawei, and BlackBerry have taken the wraps off their latest devices, all eyes are on Samsung’s New York event taking place on March 29th. And it’s easy to see why, considering the event trailer teases a device with a full bezel redesign.
In the trailer, the left and right side bezels are eliminated, leading us to hope that the S8 will pack a truly bezelless display – as in no edge of the screen at all on two sides. However, if recent leaks are to be believed, this won’t be the case; there will only be a reduction of (and not the full removal of) the side bezels. We’ll have to wait and see.
In addition to the device’s attractive form factor, the Galaxy S8 is expected to boast Qualcomm’s elusive Snapdragon 835 processor, which only a handful of other phones have. The 835 is a remarkable combination of power and efficiency; so, here’s hoping that Samsung will take the time to polish TouchWiz into something snappy and responsive.
Other features are said to include an iris scanner – likely similar to that on the Note 7 – as well as an AI-powered personal assistant, similar to Google Assistant and Siri. Sources say the assistant will be dubbed “Bixby,” and that the assistant will feature smarts from Samsung’s recently-acquired Viv Labs, which demonstrated an impressive AI assistant in May of 2016 (watch below).
If you’re as excited as we are, be sure to watch Samsung’s Unpacked event live here on March 29th at 11 AM EDT.
