Samsung may relocate the fingerprint scanner on future devices

Fingerprint scanning is a rather common feature on top-tier phones, and the technology has even been found on some budget phones, such as the Moto G4 Plus. Currently, Samsung’s Galaxy S7 has its fingerprint scanner built into the home button, but a Samsung patent leads us to believe that the company has a more refined design cooking.

The patent shows a fingerprint reader on the top back edge of the phone, depicting higher positioning than that found on devices like the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. We’re guessing this would only be realistic on smaller-screened devices, however, because reaching all the way to the top of a large phablet, like the Galaxy Note, doesn’t sound too practical.
