Samsung might introduce a diluted Samsung Pay for iOS
The mobile payment market is crowded. Apple, Google, PayPal, and even Walmart have all dipped their toes in. Additionally, a recent rumor suggests that Samsung might be preparing a less-potent version of Samsung Pay for iOS.
This time, the emphasis would be on online payments instead of in-store transactions, most likely due to Apple’s NFC antenna hardware restrictions. We’re curious as to how this will play out, as many browsers currently support features like password storage and apps like Amazon can already let you checkout with Touch ID. An iOS version of Samsung Pay would also lose what is perhaps Samsung Pay’s greatest asset, the ability to use Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) at physical terminals that don’t yet process NFC. With that advantage removed and with similar solutions already out or in the works by other companies, consumers may be less likely to jump on board Samsung’s rumored offering.
There’s also talk that non-Samsung Android Marshmallow devices and possibly even Mac computers and Windows PCs might get some support. What do you think? Would you sign up?
