Google Cardboard now works in YouTube for iOS
In a recent update to the YouTube app for iOS, Google has enabled an expansive VR experience with the use of its Cardboard headset. iOS users who own a Cardboard can now tap the Google Cardboard icon inside viewing preferences for immersive viewing. While the Cardboard functionality has been available on Android for a while now, this update is exciting in that it just might make iOS VR (and VR itself, for that matter) a reality to millions more users.
For those unfamiliar with Cardboard, it’s nearly what it sounds to be: a virtual reality headset made with, well, cardboard. It uses your existing smartphone as its display. The benefit of the cardboard design is clearly the price – Google has it listed on its online store for around $15.
Apple is rumored to be working on a VR headset of its own, considering that VR is such a major new movement in tech. Companies like Samsung, HTC, LG, and of course Google, have already dipped their toes in. Only time will tell Apple’s VR plans; but for now, happy viewing with Cardboard.
